Job Descriptions:
Here are some of the departments currently hiring:
BREZ Team-
The BREZ team (as we like to call it around here - birds, kangaroos, education animals, childrens zoo) is responsible for a variety of animals, including a well behaved mob of red kangaroos, over 13 species of birds, the interactive and most popular area of the park, the children’s zoo, and the education animal collection. This team takes hustle to a whole new level and has the raking skills of 1200 men. Being responsible for three of the interactive areas of the park and such a large education animal collection means we can attribute at least 30% of the smiles in the park to this team!
If you love watching baby kangaroos take their first hops or enjoy seeing the thrill when kids hear 50 guinea pigs squeak all at once then this is the team for you!
TMC Team-
The Trouble Maker’s Cove team is responsible for a variety of animals, a flock of over 30 African penguins, some sleepy two toed sloths, noisy otters, one of the United States’ only Albino Alligators, and others. This team is responsible for almost all of the guest experiences at the park from otter meet and greets to penguin swims. They have an incredibly successful penguin chick breeding program. That also means they have some pretty incredible biceps from all that scrubbing and fish prep.
If you wish you could watch a penguin walk down the aisle for someone’s wedding, love watching guests cry over meeting sloths, or think it’s fun to watch people getting splashed by penguins as they swim with them, then this team is for you.
Hoofstock Team-
The hoofstock team is responsible for a variety of animals, including one of the largest giraffe herds in the United States, Grevy zebra, okapi, springbok, Indian rhino, a pygmy hippo breeding pair, and numerous other species. This team is hardworking and dedicated not only to the care of their animals but to the growth of their team and themselves individuals. This team is willing to put in the time and effort to have hard conversations about teamwork, care, and training for the betterment of the animals. In addition to being part of numerous successful breeding programs, the hoofstock team takes part in encounter stations and ambassador animal training around the park.
If you love watching baby giraffe take their first steps, enjoy seeing the look of amazement when kids throw carrots to hippo, or love spending summer days taking camels for a walk then you need to apply to join our team.
Primate Team-
The primate team is responsible for a variety of animals, including the largest group of Javan langurs in the United states, two successful colobus breeding groups, saki monkey, ruffed lemurs, and ring tailed lemurs to name a few. In addition to daily husbandry for breeding and exhibit groups of primates they also oversee the commissary and lemur island. Lemur island is an encounter experience where guests get to feed a lemur. This team is proud of the positive relationships they form with the animals. The training time and dedication to prepare lemurs for the island and to maintain appropriate behaviors requires a high level of dedication.

Commissary -
The commissary team is responsible for coordinating animal diets! This includes daily diet preparation, tracking product usage and ensuring products are re-stocked as needed. This person will also ensure proper storage, handling, and food stock rotation to prevent unnecessary food waste and assure USDA and ZAA standards are met.

Carnivore Team - Previous carnivore experience required
The carnivore team is responsible for a variety of animals tiger, serval, ratel, lion, and a large cheetah breeding facility. This team gets up early and stays late, and puts in the time to provide the best possible life for their animals. In addition to being part of numerous successful breeding programs, the carnivore team is responsible for training demonstrations, behind the scenes tours and ambassador animal training around the park.

Animal Park at the Conservators Center - Animal Husbandry Manager - posted 12/31/2023

Animal Husbandry Manager
The Animal Husbandry Manager at the Animal Park at the Conservators Center is responsible for the daily husbandry and overall welfare of the animal collection. This Manager works alongside, trains, and oversees the animal care staff. The Animal Husbandry Manager interacts regularly with individual animals for their daily care, as well as with other staff and park guests to help provide exceptional visitor experiences. This position is an intermediate management position with the potential for growth through continuing education, new skills training and extended job responsibilities.
The person filling this role works weekends and holidays, outdoors in all weather, and maintains a positive, professional attitude at all times. This position is salaried, commensurate with experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervises all aspects of the daily husbandry of the park’s animals, including diet prep and feeding, basic habitat maintenance and facilitating health care
- Manages a staff of zookeepers including hiring, training, scheduling, working alongside, and supervising
- Maintains daily electronic record-keeping on diets, health, welfare, and training
- Manages the departmental budget with guidance and oversight from leadership
- Coordinates with veterinarians regarding animal health concerns, medications and visits
- Manages the intern program, including advertising applications, interviews, training, and program development
- Integrates and supervises volunteer support staff
- Responsible for acquisition, processing, and storage of animal food, including whole prey
- Interacts with donors and members of the public regularly, sharing an educational perspective and encouraging participation in Animal Park programs
- May participate in educational experiences including keeper chats, tours, animal presentations or demonstrations, and/or other public interactions
- Performs basic landscaping maintenance and eliminates toxic or harmful plants

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five or more years of experience working with exotic or wild animals as a staff member/employee, including potentially dangerous animals like large carnivores
- Strong interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills
- Experience with simple construction and maintenance
- Public speaking and educational presentation skills
- Experience with or willingness to learn to safely operate firearms
- Capacity to learn new skills and complex tasks quickly and thoroughly
- High adaptability and flexibility on the job
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Zookeeping, Animal Science, Biology, or related field (comparable work experience considered)
