Tembe Elephant Park -Internship with Katie Adamson Conservation Fund Posted July 13,2025
Internships at Tembe Elephant Park. South Africa.
Indigenous run park in Kwa-ZuluNatal. Not a national park. So they need help and funding.
Teaming with the local liaisons, Custom Trails, who have been our guides in Zulu Nyala for years now.
We helped them form this local NGO.
The KACF has done two trips with them for lions already, in February and June. Very successful.
We collared one female and one male in February and moved three big male cubs to another reserve. They were about two years old and ready to find unrelated females. We moved another male onto the compound for their mother.
We collared three females in June, but did not do the 4th female since she was very pregnant.
Tembe can ideally hold up to 30 lions. They have about 22-24 right now.
Next team trip is August for elephant collaring. We have six interns and ten eco-tourists attending.
We will be collaring two bull elephants.
Male lion collaring is scheduled for October.
Collars for lions cost us around $1200. Elephant collars cost us about $3500.
Tembe is a fenced in park and the information we gather helps them figure out where they utilize the park resources and where they go if they get out. This helps keep the local community and their cattle safe.
Interns stay at the conservation headquarters for only $500/month. So this will be the cost plus flights. They get to engage with conservation and radio-telemetry. They also need money for food and tips. Telling the elephant interns that their trip in August will roughly be about $3000. For two weeks in South Africa.
If we can get a group for October it will be our fourth this year. We had promised four annual trips starting in 2026, so we will be ahead of schedule with this collaboration.

*EQUIVALENCY

Certain combinations of education, experience and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position.
Candidates whose transcripts do not list the title of their degree exactly as listed above, but feel they possess such equivalent qualifications are encouraged to complete and submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency (Download PDF reader) with their application for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee.
Example:
Minimum Qualifications state: “Master’s degree in agriculture”.
Candidate’s transcripts state: “Master’s degree in agricultural science”.

When completing the form, be sure to explain in detail how your qualifications are equivalent to the required minimum qualifications. Do not assume that you do not need to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency because your degree is similar to a degree stated in the minimum qualifications. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalency process.
The equivalency review is an independent process for district wide disciplines that is separate from the recruitment process to fill a vacancy. A subcommittee of discipline experts that is coordinated by an Academic Senate President will review the equivalency materials and make a recommendation as to whether or not the applicant demonstrated they have qualifications that are equivalent to those shown in the minimum qualifications section of the job posting. For disciplines that are unique to a specific campus the equivalency may be done by the hiring committee along with an Academic Senate President. Please be aware that the hiring committee may not be able to wait for the results from the equivalency review due to various time constraints and may need to move forward with the recruitment process.
For further details regarding equivalency and the criteria by which equivalency may be granted, please review VCCCD Board Policy 7211 and VCCCD Administrative Policy 7211.
